Adult Sunday School
Adult Sunday school classes meet from 9:00 to 10:00 and from 10:30 to 11:30 on Sunday mornings. The classes cover the same material; attend the class of your choice. If you are unable to attend either classroom session consider taking the class online. See the Adult section of the Sunday school page for more information.
Women’s Small Group Bible Study:
Women Only. Meet with Christian women and grow through prayer, study, scripture and fellowship in a friendly and confidential environment. Come laugh, cry and share with us—there’s always room for more. This group meets Wednesdays, twice a month in members’ homes.
Heart and Soul:
This small group ministry for women meets every other month for food, fellowship, discussion or bible study, and mutual support. Get-togethers are usually held in the homes of members or at a local restaurant. Group members help to support church events such as the Fall Festival and Easter egg sale. Past activities have also included attending theater performances, a shopping excursion and weekend retreats.
InReach Ministry:
InReach was created to cater to the needs of the congregation by “reaching in” to help members who are experiencing illness or have had a death in the family. This group provides meals, transportation and child care during the time of need. In-reach also calls members on their birthday with happy wishes.
Social Ministry:
Our social ministry reaches out to those in need, locally and around the country. The purpose is a simple one, to love our neighbors, whether we know them or not. It’s a calling of compassion that reaches into the hearts of strangers to witness the love of Christ. We are called to be compassionate, and we are called to love in Christ’s name.
Through this ministry, we’ve reached out to Baltimore’s homeless; provided Thanksgiving turkeys to area families; sponsored families for Christmas; assembled lunches for ESCAPE ministries; participated in LRW’s Crop Walk to bring recognition to world hunger; and sponsored our missionary.
This group meets on second Wednesdays at 7 p.m., and the doors are always open in our growing ministry.
Prayer Shawl Ministry:
This ministry creates shawls and stoles for newly baptized infants, children and adults as well as the sick, hospitalized or homebound. Each shawl and stole is created by God’s guiding hand and the recipient is wrapped entirely in the Father’s love.
You don’t have to know how to make a stitch to be part of this ministry. We’ll teach you. Most of the work is done at home and shawls are blessed during healing services at church.
Stephen Ministry:
Trained Stephen’s ministers work one-on-one with friends and members of the church as individual caregivers to offer prayer, support, love and nurturing in the name of Christ. In return, these ministers meet as a small group to grow in their training and share in their work. We welcome anyone who wants to be part of a nationally known and well-respected program.
Here is a link to the Stephen Ministries organization and to a PBS video on the group.
Prayer Ministry:
The Prayer Ministry is a dedicated group whose members pray regularly for others. They pray for each family in our congregation on a rotating basis. They pray for our church, nation and our global community and accept confidential prayer requests for Calvary members, and others. The Prayer Ministry also sends prayer cards. They meet on the last Tuesday of each month and welcome new members. Please contact Regina Schneider if you have a confidential prayer request. You may send your prayer request to Regina in an e mail to prayer@celconline.org or enter a prayer request here:
Reconciliation Ministry:
What is the Reconciliation Ministry Team? It is a group of caring Christians, who want to help our church family deal with conflict within the church, and in our personal lives, in a peacemaking, loving, Christ like way.
Why Do We Have A Reconciliation Ministry At Calvary? Paul writes in I Corinthians Chapter 13, "Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude". Sometimes we all forget the rules of loving one another, listening to one another, and dealing with conflict in a loving, caring way. The Reconciliation Ministry wants to share successful strategies for conflict resolution, based on the book, The Peacemaker, by Ken Sande.
You will learn not to dread conflict, but to view it as an opportunity to glorify God and serve others. Learn to become more like Christ by demonstrating the love and power of God in our lives.
Can You Sing?
Even if you don’t sing, we’d like to invite you to join a small existing group that goes to Britton Woods Nursing Home on the fourth Thursday each month to sing for a half hour. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help call Jan Cleary or the church office 410-489-5280.
Top of the Hill Gang
Welcome all seniors! Join us the 2nd Tuesday of every month. A delicious meal beginning at noon is served by The Women of Calvary with a meeting to follow. All are welcome from Calvary and our neighboring communities. We hope to see you there!
New Comers
The goal of the New Comers committee is to help those interested in becoming a Calvary Congregational member feel comfortable and find their fit within their new church home. The Committee supports Calvary's pastors in providing a New Member's class and fellowship luncheon, which is offered to those who are interested in learning more about Calvary. The class offers a basic overview of the Christian faith, the historical roots of the Lutheran Church and practical steps in how one can grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ and how to become more connected in their relationships at Calvary. After the class, new comers are matched with a congregational member who will continue to stay in touch for about 3 years.
Youth Band
Calvary's Youth Band, The Followers, includes middle and high schoolers who love to play instruments and sing. They have delighted us with their songs during Contemporary Worship.
Fellowship
The fellowship committee plans parties and social gatherings for Calvary Lutheran church members. Their goal is to host at least one event each quarter, sometimes partnering with the fundraising committee (e.g., spaghetti or crab cake dinner) and sometimes just for fun (e.g., back to school pool party). Family and friends are always welcome and some events are advertised to the community as well, welcoming them to join in the warm fellowship we are blessed with here at Calvary.
WELCA
WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church) is a support
group for the church ... it
supports the kitchen (keeping it stocked, orderly, equipment and
supplies in working order
and organized), it supports the Top of the Hill Gang (monthly
luncheon gatherings for the
senior citizens of our church and the community), it supports a
child from the Philippines, it
supports luncheons when requested after funerals, it supports the
efforts of the fundraising
committee, and some of us still go monthly to a local nursing home
and sing hymns with the
residents. The Annual Calvary Mother/Daughter Banquet was begun by
members of the
WELCA many years ago.
